‘I Saw The Devil’ Remake To Get Writer And Director Team From ‘The Guest’ And 'You're Next', Fans Don’t Want A Remake Regardless

Since the success of films like "The Ring" and "The Grudge," Asian horror film remakes in Hollywood have become commonplace. The next film to get an American version will be Kim Jee-woon's "I Saw The Devil" and it looks like Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett are in talks to direct and write the remake, respectively. The pair are responsible for indie horror break out "You're Next" and upcoming release, "The Guest." But fans of the original 2010 film starring Lee Byung Hun and Choi Minsik don't seem to really care how well the pair might due and continue to express desire for the project to never make it out of development.

On Screenrant, a fan by the name of Future Muggles points out that, "One of the key reasons why J-Horror and Korean psycho-horror is so successful, is that they are made by Asian teams in a distinct style that US directors can rarely access. Transporting the ‘story' to a US remake is like eating a photo of a gourmet dinner." This is just one comment among a whole string of fans who do not want to see "I See the Devil" remade for U.S. audiences, even after it was announced that the "You're Next" team might be writing and directing.

According to The Wrap, "Just days before their latest genre film ‘The Guest' hits theaters,Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard are nearing a deal to write and direct an English-language remake of Kim Jee-Woon's 2010 South Korean serial killer thriller ‘I Saw the Devil'." It would seem fans might have faith in the "You're Next" team because that film is one of the only new Horror film releases to receive a certified fresh from Rotten Tomatoes.

But fans of the original thriller from South Korea don't feel that a remake is necessary or even wanted. For those unfamiliar, "I Saw The Devil" is the story of a cop who becomes a monster in order to catch his wife and unborn child's sadistic murderer. The fans might be right on their part, given that the original "I Saw The Devil" is currently outperforming "You're Next" on the rotten tomato meter, holding steady at an 80% certified fresh.

Fans of the original film can still perhaps have some hope as no key crew position has been absolutely confirmed. However, if Wingard and Barrett do end up heading the project, it may not be too painful of a remake.
