Leonardo DiCaprio Hailed As United Nations’ Messenger Of Peace; Toni Garrn’s Boyfriend To Use ‘Global Stardom’ To Fight Climate Crisis

Fans might describe him as dreamy on-screen but it does not mean that Leonardo DiCaprio is unwilling to do tough work for notable causes. Recently, Toni Garrn's boyfriend has been named as the United Nations' Messenger of Peace.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon confirmed the news of DiCaprio's new role in addressing climate change matters. He likewise explained why the "Wolf of Wall Street" actor was chosen.

"His global stardom is the perfect match for this global challenge," he said while adding that apart from being one of the world's leading actors, DiCaprio also possessed "a longstanding commitment to environmental causes."

It was in 1998 when the Toni Garrn's beau founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation which is "dedicated to protecting Earth's last wild places and implementing solutions that create a harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world."

DiCaprio's foundation is committed to several environmental causes such as the prevention of elephant poaching and trading of ivory, the protection of marine animals in the Pacific and Arctic oceans, and the prevention of wildlife crimes.

Last Tuesday, the "Titanic" actor expressed his excitement for his new endeavor: "I feel a moral obligation to speak out at this key moment in human history - it is a moment for action. How we respond to the climate crisis in the coming years will likely determine the fate of humanity and our planet."

DiCaprio will be addressing the United Nations on September 23.

Earlier this year, his fellow Hollywood stars Emma Watson and Angelina Jolie were likewise assigned to have pivotal roles in the United Nations.
