‘The Girl Who Played With Fire’ Movie Script Already Penned? Director David Fincher Has High Hopes For ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Sequel

Many bibliophiles expected that "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" movie in 2011 would pave way for adaptations of the two other books. However, three years after the thriller's release, no confirmation has been released regarding "The Girl Who Played with Fire" and the third book, "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest."

The official synopsis of "The Girl Who Played with Fire" reads:

"After a sex-trafficking expose is written by journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Craig), cyberpunk hacker Lisbeth Salander (Mara) is framed for three brutal murders. Blomkvist, convinced of Salander's innocence, must work to bring her justice."

There's no word yet on when the sequel will officially go into production, but at the very least Fincher is claiming that it's bound happen at some point.

The trilogy was already adapted into film in Sweden. In America, the film had a different version which starred Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig. With a budget of $90 million, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" movie was able to rake in a total of $232 million worldwide.

Such is enough for director David Fincher to hope for a sequel. While promoting his newest thriller "Gone Girl," Fincher talked about the possibility of having a "The Girl Who Played with Fire" movie.

"I think because [Sony] already has spent millions of dollars on the rights and the script that it will result in something. The script that we now have has huge potential, I can't reveal much as it's extremely different from the book," he teased.

Previous news surfaced that "Se7en" screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker would lend his skills in rewriting the screenplay's first draft which was originally penned by Steve Zaillian. Since then, no other updates have been released regarding the story.
