Best Director Oscar Buzz: Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’ Gets A New Poster, David Fincher To Hit Press Circuit For ‘Gone Girl’ And Reveals He Won’t Be Doing A Marvel Film Any Time Soon

For the general population, the biggest award at the Oscars may be Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress, but for those who love and adore film, Best Director is always the category to watch. This year, the competition is already steep as "Dark Knight Trilogy" director Christopher Nolan reveals a new poster for his latest project, "Interstellar." Meanwhile, "Social Network" director David Fincher will set out to promote his take on the popular thriller novel "Gone Girl," in which he has just admitted that he has no plans to ever try his hand at a superhero film.

David Fincher may have made the pop culture phenomenon "The Social Network" but the award winning director doesn't plan on joining any superhero franchises anytime soon: "I find it dull," the director stated in an interview with Indiewire. He further explained: "I like to anticipate the energy of a movie audience that's waiting for the curtain to come up and thinking, Well, one thing we don't know about this guy is that we don't know how bad it can get."

Based on this, "Gone Girl" seems to be the perfect project for Fincher. The film, which stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, is an adaptation of the same title critically acclaimed novel by Gillian Flynn. One of the major features of the plot is uncertainty about whether Nick Dunne is responsible for his wife's disappearance. One can be sure that Fincher will use that built in suspense to his advantage.

Although David Fincher is not interested in large scale project, Christopher Nolan is coming off of perhaps the greatest Batman franchise to date. His newest film, "Interstellar" stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Michael Caine. Add in what the actors are saying about his combination of sci-fi and drama, and "Interstellar" is perfect for Best Director Oscar-bait. A new poster was released today that features McConaughey star gazing, although information on the plot of the film has been largely kept under wraps.

It's still very early in the Oscar race, but if Fincher and Nolan both end up in the Best Director category this year, it's sure to be a tough choice.
