Miss America 2015 Kira Kasantsev Is Latest Miss America to Court Controversy; The Former Miss New York Gets Blowback Because She Interned for Planned Parenthood

Miss America 2015 Kira Kasantsev: Miss New York Kira Kazantsev, 22, was presented with the new Miss America crown at Boardwalk Hall. This is the third time straight time that a Miss New York beauty pageant contestant won the Miss America pageant. But the New York winner is already getting blowback

According to her Linked-In profile, the 23-year-old pageant winner interned at Planned Parenthood in Hempstead, New York for three months.

Carol Tobias, the president of the pro-life group National Right to Life told FOX411 "It would be a tragedy if someone who is looked up to by many young women actually buys into the Planned Parenthood abortion agenda. Unfortunately, most people in the country don't know that Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider. This will cast a shadow on her entire reign."

Eric Ferrero, a representative for Planned Parenthood, explained "Miss America Kira Kazantsev interned last year at her local Planned Parenthood affiliate, where she supported staff members who provide sex education in the community and at local schools. Several past Miss Americas have supported Planned Parenthood's mission, and we're thrilled and proud that one of our former interns is the new Miss America."

Miss America 2015 Kira Kasantsev spent her formative years at Walnut Creek Intermediate School and Las Lomas High School. She graduated in 2009.

Kira Kazantsev's parents are Russian immigrants. Kazantsev said her ambition is to be a diplomat. The newest Miss America winner intends to use her pageant platform to promote awareness of domestic violence. Kazantsev wants to fight sexual assault in the military during her yearlong resign as Miss America.

Kazantsev says she intends to the $50,000 that she won in scholarship money to help pay for law school. Kazantsev is attending the University of Notre Dame.

The first runner-up was Miss Virginia Courtney Paige Garrett. The other top 5 finalists were Miss Arkansas Ashton Jo Campbell; Miss Florida Victoria Cowen; and Miss Massachusetts Lauren Kuhn. Miss North Dakota, Jacky Arness won Miss Congeniality.

Kazantsev will travel 20,000 miles a month in her new role.
