Weekend Box Office Predictions: ‘Teen Wolf’ Star Dylan O’ Brien Expected To Bring #1 Debut For ‘The Maze Runner’, Liam Neeson’s ‘The Walk Among The Tombstones’ To Be #2
Given the now quite sophisticated mathematical models used to make box office predictions, weekends at the movie theaters have become less surprising over the years. This weekend the expectation is that "The Maze Runner" starring "Teen Wolf's" Dylan O'Brian will debut at number one. Meanwhile Liam Neeson's latest action thriller "The Walk Among the Tombstones," will likely take the second spot at the box office this weekend.
Variety recently spoke to "The Maze Runner" star Dylan O'Brien about going to this year's comic con and he commented on one fan's overzealous action: "We were walking through Petco Park after a signing, and this girl plowed through security and grabbed onto my neck and started pulling. Her grip was so impressively strong that this huge security guard was struggling to get her off of me." If this fan's reaction is any indication on how teenage girls feel about O'Brien, they'll probably be the main force behind the film's box office performance this weekend.
Although there's no consistent box office gross number yet, all film sources have put "The Maze Runner" at this weekend, including Deadline, who states that one of the advantages the YA novel film adaptation will have is that "Fox will be able to tap those higher ticket prices from being on 351 IMAX screens."
The second big studio film this weekend that will debut is "The Walk Among the Tombstones," starring "Taken" hero Liam Neeson. The New York Times reports that the film is "nasty, brutal, and unforgiving," so it will probably draw the same fan base that is desperately missing "Game of Thrones" right about now. Indiewire predicts the action flick to come in second place over the weekend.
Since there's unlikely to be any strong holdovers from last weekend other than last minute "Guardians of the Galaxy" viewers, it appears that the fall film season is officially underway.
