‘Maze Runner’ Movie Lead Dylan O’ Brien Compares Film With ‘Divergent’ And ‘Hunger Games’; ‘Teen Wolf’ Star Says It’s ‘Cool’ That Movie Doesn’t Have Romance

Since the "Maze Runner" movie is based on a young adult novel, some cannot help but wonder how similar it might be with "Divergent" and "Hunger Games" which proved to be successful in the genre.

The "Maze Runner" movie revolves around a teenager named Thomas (O'Brien) who finds himself in a maze, clueless about his past. The giant maze, aptly called as The Glade, is likewise filled with boys who have no memories about their past. Zap2it reveals that Thomas will play a pivotal role as the boys attempt to escape.

While the "Maze Runner" movie is an action-filled flick, O'Brien believes that it has one difference from other successful YA flicks.

"We don't have romance in the movie, and I love that, for the first time in one of these really cool YA stories," he told Hollywood Reporter.

He also admits being puzzled with how other YA flicks manage to have romantic aspects despite the chaos going on in the plot: "During what's going on [in other films], how is there romance happening? It doesn't make any sense."

"These kids are fighting for their lives, they're not gonna stop and kiss and cuddle, and I love that so much," said the "Teen Wolf" cast member.

"Maze Runner" author James Dashner also reveals that he initially got worried that the film adaptation might have romance just like other flicks that have "romance plot line" or "love triangle."

"There's not even a kiss [in the movie]," he also told Colorado Springs Independent.

Another thing which Dashner believes makes "Maze Runner" different is its possession of an "underdog script and an under-the-radar project with all relatively up-and-coming actors."
