Updates From Tokyo Game Show 2014: ‘Final Fantasy’ And ‘Kingdom Hearts’ Creators Combine Forces For New RPG ‘Zodiac’

The 2014 Tokyo Game Show is fully underway and while Square Enix may have announced little to nothing about release dates for "Kingdom Hearts 3" or "Final Fantasy 15," some of the creators behind earlier installments in those series have an RPG game that fanatics might be interested in. "Zodiac" a new touch based RPG was just revealed and while information is scarce in regards to story and platforms it will arrive on, it's expected to be released in 2015.

The "Zodiac" video game director recently had this to say about their new RPG according to IGN: "[Zodiac] is a project that melds elements from ‘Final Fantasy', ‘Valkyrie Profile', and ‘Dragon's Crown' to create a new online multiplayer experience." While the game is more than likely going to be for a mobile and or handheld platform, it boasts the talents of veterans from the "Final Fantasy" and "Kingdom Hearts" franchise, so it may be well worth playing on a tiny handheld screen.

The talents in question are "Hitoshi Sakimoto, a long-time composer responsible for game soundtracks ranging from the ‘Tactics Ogre' and ‘Final Fantasy Tactics' series to ‘Final Fantasy XII' and ‘Dragon's Crown'." He's joined by Kazushige Nojima, "a writer who worked on the likes of ‘Final Fantasy VII', ‘Final Fantasy VIII', ‘Final Fantasy X', ‘Kingdom Hearts', ‘Kingdom Hearts II'," and plenty of other titles.

According to Polygon, "The role-playing game features a 2D world, turn-based battles and a persistent multiplayer, according to a gameplay demonstration at TGS. Players can explore a lush world both on-foot and by riding the main character's partner, a gryphon. Other party members, including friends' characters will join players in turn-based battles."

The developers and the french game company Kobojo had little to say about a release date or specific platform, but the 2D RPG "Zodiac" is expected to be available sometime next year. It will most likely draw fans of "Child of Light," and those of us still wondering about "Kingdom Hearts 3" and or "Final Fantasy 15."
