Sandman Movie 2016: Release Date Scheduled For 2016 With Joseph Gordon-Levitt Playing Morpheus; Actor To Direct The Film Adaptation, Too?

The popular graphic novel by Neil Gaiman is set to release in Sandman movie 2016, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt supposedly taking on the role of Morpheus.

Morpheus, the King of the Dreaming, is the lead character in Sandman. Morpheus or Dream, is one of the seven Endless. The six others are his siblings - Desire, Death, Destiny, Delirium, Despair and Destruction. Other interesting characters are also involved in the plot such as Lucifer Morningstar, Cain and Abel and Markus Aurelius among others. The story moves between horror and fantasy and revolves around Morpheus dealing with various unique characters.

The first issue of the novel was released in 1989 and plans for a film adaptation ensued a few years later. However, Gaiman rejected drafts for the movie, saying that he preferred that no Sandman movie 2016 be made, rather than releasing a bad film. He was looking for someone who was as obsessed with the original material, based on a report by Franchise Herald. 

According to Deadline.com, Jack Thorne was finally chosen to script Sandman at Warner Bros. Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be producing together with David Goyer, and will possibly star and direct too.

Gaiman talked about Gordon-Levitt at the Cinequest Film Festival, "Joseph Gordon-Levitt, of all people, is an enormous Sandman fan. He and David Goyer talked about it, they've come up, I believe, with a treatment of what they want the story of the first movie to be. They are talking to an incredible writer [Jack Thorne], who I coincidentally already knew, because he did the movie script for The Ocean at the End of the Lane, so I've met him and loved his treatment of my work."

Fans of the graphic novel will have to wait for further news to determine whether Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be playing Morpheus or focus on directing. The Sandman movie 2016 is set to release in December.
