Stephen King’s ‘11/22/63’ Grabs Hulu Series Order, J.J Abrams Set To Executive Produce While Still Busy With 'Star Wars Episode VII'

A few weeks back it was announced that CBS would be adapting the Stephen King short story, "The Things They Left Behind." It would appear that everyone has eyes on the novelist's works these days as today it was announced that Hulu just ordered a full series based on his novel, "11/22/63." The series will be produced by J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company, which arguably means it has a good chance of being fantastic.

J.J. Abrams made ‘Lost' and has been busy ever since. In regards to "11/23/63," his latest announced project, the popular director stated to Deadline that, "I've been a fan of Stephen King since I was in junior high school. The chance to work with him at all, let alone on a story so compelling, emotional and imaginative, is a dream." It's a good thing he's only attached to produce this new series, otherwise one might begin to wonder how he's juggling two of the biggest upcoming sci-fi films and a TV series.

According to the Los Angeles Times, "Stephen King's JFK assassination and time travel thriller ‘11/22/63' is getting the event series treatment on Hulu. The hefty novel (849 pages in hardcover) will become a nine-hour series on the online streaming TV service with J.J. Abrams and King himself serving as executive producers. Bridget Carpenter, who has previously written for ‘Friday Night Lights,' ‘Parenthood' and ‘The Red Road' will write the adaptation."

As for Stephen King, he admits that he's excited to work with Abrams and the Bad Robot team as well. Although some fans might be worried about the series based on how the prolific writer's work has been treated in the past, with J.J. Abrams attached this series could easily grab a host of directors and cast worthy of praise. There's no news on when the series may end up on Hulu, but given the platform, it will hopefully be available for binge-watching sometime next year. That is of course assuming that J.J. Abrams doesn't get too busy with "Star Trek 3" or "Star Wars Episode VII."
