iPhone 6 Sales Reaches 10 Million On First Weekend; ‘The Best Launch Ever’ Says Apple CEO; iOS 8 Flagship & Phablet Now In 10 Countries

iPhone 6 sales reached 10 million on its very first weekend and the record breaking statistic was “the best launch ever” according to Apple CEO Tim Cook. The sales figure combines the units sold for the flagship iPhone 6 and Apple’s first phablet, the iPhone 6 Plus.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus was made available in 10 countries and “shattered all previous sell-through records by a large margin,” says Cook.

In a report by the Daily News, it noted that the launch of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C last year led to 9 million units sold on its first weekend, though the figure included sales in China, the largest smartphone market in the world. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are yet to be available in the country as regulatory issues delayed its availability.

“We could have sold more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible,” Cook said Monday, as reported by the Daily News.

The Cupertino tech giant has earlier announced that preorders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus combined topped 4 million units on its first 24 hours, BGR noted.

The new flagship and phablet were made available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK and will be available in more than 20 additional countries on September 26. In the company’s official press release, the new iPhones will be available in 155 countries by the end of the year.

CNBC reports that the number is significant for many reasons. Analyts are expecting the Cupertino tech giant to match last year’s launch tally. “Those analysts are now likely to boost their revenue and earnings estimates for Apple's fourth quarter, since all iPhones shipped before next Tuesday will be included in that period,” writes CNBC’s Jon Fortt and Javier David.
