'Tetris' Movie Confirmed To Be In The Works! Puzzle Game Film More Than Just 'Geometric Shapes With Feet,' Will It Be In 3D?

It has been confirmed that Threshold Entertainment would partner with The Tetris Company for the creation of a "Tetris" movie. The entertainment company is similarly responsible for bringing the video game "Mortal Kombat" to the silver screen.

In a statement, Threshold Chairman Larry Kasanoff said that the film would have a sci-fi genre: "Everyone knows that Tetris is one of the best known, most beloved brands in the world. What everyone doesn't know yet is this epic sci-­fi story that we're going to tell. That's what's really exciting."

No details have been revealed yet regarding the film although Henk Regers from The Tetris Company confirmed that the film wouldn't just be about "clearing lines."

"This isn't a movie with a bunch of lines running around the page. We're not giving feet to the geometric shapes," added Kasanoff to the Wall Street Journal.

Since the game is known for its classic blocks, some are wondering if the upcoming film will be in 3D. As of this point, Kasanoff only assured that the "Tetris" movie would be imaginative: "Brands are the new stars of Hollywood. We have a story behind 'Tetris' which makes it a much more imaginative thing."

Apart from Tetris, other puzzle video games have been turned into movies such as "Resident Evil," "Tomb Raider," and "Prince of Persia."

The original Tetris game was launched in 1984 by a computer whiz named Alexey Pajitnov. Its Nintendo GameBoy version was released five years after.
