In Honor Of The Upcoming Horror Film “Annabelle,” Here Are Our Top 5 Favorite Films That Feature Creepy Dolls [VIDEO]

There's something slightly terrifying about tiny figures that look like humans but with exaggerated figures. Or, maybe no one thought dolls were creepy until horror films suddenly began to feature them as tiny killers lurking in the dark waiting to take over your body, or worse, your soul.

"The Conjuring" spin off "Annabelle," which further explores the origin story of the female doll kept locked away by Ed and Lorraine Warren, hits theaters this Friday on October 3rd. In honor of the film we've compiled a list of our favorite horror films that have their own terrifying miniature plastic (sometimes) dolls.

# 5 - Puppetmaster (1989)

Admittedly this is a terrible film. In fact, both critics and audiences blasted it on Rotten Tomatoes. That being said, the dolls themselves are the highlight of the otherwise superbly bad fantasy horror film. Since the dolls are tiny and sometimes knife-wielding are still somehow scary despite being able to punt them like a football, perhaps they're really horrible because they just remind you of how vulnerable bare feet can be.

# 4 - May (2002)

Long before she helmed the hysterical "Scary Movie" franchise, Anna Faris had a supporting role in a film about a very strange girl who just wanted to make friends. May however realizes that it's better to physically make your own friend that waste your energy on trying to get real human beings to spend time with you. Problem is, she used real human body parts to make her own friend. In that way, this film really has two creepy dolls.

# 3 - Saw (2004)

Say what you will about how the franchise turned out toward the end, the original "Saw" film was fresh and innovative in terms of style and character. And then there's Jigsaw the doll that gives you your instructions before your will to live is tested. The creepiest part of Jigsaw by far is that iconic laughing noise that comes from the doll right before someone is attacked.

# 2 - The Conjuring (2013)

This one has to be obvious considering that fans liked the doll "Annabelle" so much she's getting her own film. For those who somehow missed James Wan's last horror film though, it's important to watch the following clip of "Annabelle" causing terror for the first time on screen.

# 1 - Child's Play (1988)

Anyone who grew up during the time when "Child's Play" was first hitting theaters and VHS tapes probably will never forget how comical Good Guy dolls cheesy statements were. That is until they suddenly turned sinister due to one of the dolls hosting the soul of a psychopath named Charles. Chucky the Good Guy doll came back for quite a few films in this franchise (which were probably way too campy by the end) but none can compare to this original frighteningly fun creepy doll film.
