Community Season 6 Cast: Donal Glover Leaves The Show As John Olver And Jonathan Banks Are In! Why Did He Leave?

Pairing the happy with the sad has become a tradition with Community. Season 1-3 showrunner and series creator Dan Harmon made a shocking return last season. Fans found out that Donald Glover would be working on only a few episodes. Without Troy Barnes, played by Donal Glover, Community carried on returning and new cast additions like John Olver and Jonathan Banks. Nevertheless the comedic force of Troy and Abed team-up was greatly felt on the screen.

The show will now have to carry on without the character, Shirley Bennett played by Yvette Nicole Brown. This season is nothing short of a miracle as it exists because Yahoo screen came in before it was too late and saved the cancelled sitcom and checked off half of the #SixSeasonsAndAMovie rallying cry.

If casually observed, this might seem like less of a hit as compared to when Glover and Chevy Chase left the show. Unlike Glover, Brown has not always been the comedic driving force neither did she picked up as much attention as Chase did. Brown is more recognized as a supporting player. However, this is might be the biggest loss of them all.

If put in an architectural term, Shirley has been a load bearing wall and is the most grounded character of the show, in fact, she is the conscience of the group. Shirley is the only character with responsibilities and a life away from Greendale. This implies that Dan Harmon will need to do a better job of building a tether to the real world for the other characters.

Brown is taking care of her ill father and thus is taking up less time consuming roles on CBS's multi-camera Odd Couple reboot. It is set for mid-season.

We don't know how Shirley's absence will be handled and probably might not know it for quite some time, however, Brown has some thoughts about on this, she said, "I am totally open to whatever Dan decides, [...] I'm glad it won't be hard for them to explain where she is. She has three kids, a degree and a business. There are a lot of ways to explain her [departure]."
