Zombieland 2 Finally Moving Forward; To Be Penned By Godzilla Writer

"Zombieland 2" has finally been given a headstart, five years after the first movie premiered.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, "Zombieland 2" will be penned by Dave Callaham, who wrote "Godzilla."

Callaham will reportedly be supervised by Ruben Fleischer, who directed the first movie. There had been no confirmation whether Fleischer will return on the director's chair for the sequel, but a report from Cinemablend suggested that there is a big chance that Sony will re-hire him.

Callaham's writing credits include "Barrow," which was renamed as "The Expendables." He only got credit for it after suing Sylvester Stallone. He also wrote the first version of "Godzilla" but his work was heavily revised by Max Borenstein.

There also have been no news as to who will star the sequel. While it would be exciting to have the first installment's stars (Emma Stone, Woodey Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin) back on board, Screenrant suggested that it might be difficult due to their successes prior to the sequel.

The 2009 movie fared rather well in the box office, grossing $102 million from a $23.6 million budget. It even garnered a loyal following.

In 2013, a series was made from the film and was pitched for Amazon's Prime service. The attempt did not succeed and its writer-producer Rhett Reese reportedly blamed the canning of the show on the movie version's fans.

"Our Zombieland series will not be moving forward on Amazon," said Reese on Twitter. "Sad for everyone involved."

Reese, who also wrote the film, shared his dismay, tweeting: "I'll understand the vehement hate the pilot received from die-hard Zombieland fans. You guys successfully hated it out of existence."

But he was quick to regain composure and followed the statement with: "Anyway, we did our best, and we're very proud of our team."

There are still a lot of things bound to happen and a lot of information to come out. So, keep an eye for "Zombieland 2" updates.
