‘Psycho-Pass 2’ Release Date Set For October 9th: Can U.S. Fans Expect A Funimation Simulcast?

There's usually excitement when a release date for a new anime is finally announced. Unless of course you're in North America and the release date is specifically for the Japanese debut of your favorite anime. And so begins the hunt for fansubs.

It is officially the month of October and while there's still about a week left before the highly anticipated "Psycho-Pass 2" anime starts, U.S. fans are still perhaps wondering if they'll be able to see the series at the same time as anime fans in Japan.

"Think of a simulcast like it's broadcast TV. Ratings are most important when a show is broadcasting a new season. Due to similar issues we deal with, business decisions must be made based on how well a show performed during its initial broadcast," said social media Funimation representative Michelle Lee.

"Psycho-pass 2" which was voted the most anticipated anime of the fall in Japan, got it's official release date as well as two new trailers a few weeks ago via Anime News Network. The new season of "Psycho-pass" will air on Fuji TV's noitaminA animation block starting October 9th. Since the series is licensed in North America by Funimation, what are the odds that U.S. anime fans will be able to catch the series through simulcast?

According to Michelle Lee's follow-up blog about simulcasts, the problem is always going to be about making sure that fans watch the anime between the time that the first episode goes live and the time that the last episode of the series goes live.

That being said, since Funimation simulcast the "Psycho-Pass" re-edit, perhaps the ratings were good enough to warrant a "Psycho-Pass 2" simulcast. Given that it's already October though and no official announcement has been made by Funimation, time is definitely running out for the possibility of U.S. fans having viewing options other than fansubs.
