Upcoming Sony Phones 2014: This Rumored Android Phablet Is A Beast, Boasts 6.2" QHD Display, 64-Bit Snapdragon 810, 22.1MP Camera, 4GB RAM

One of the upcoming Sony phones for 2014, the Xperia Z3 is certainly a must-have device if you do not have the Xperia Z2. Its smaller sidekick, the Xperia Z3 Compact on the other hand is shaping up to be the company's bet to take on Samsung's Galaxy Alpha and Apple's iPhone 6.

However, more than a few people asked why the Japanese manufacturer did not announce a phablet during the IFA showcase in Berlin. Last year, the company unveiled the Xperia Z Ultra phablet which packs similar specs to the Z1 phone, but features a huge 6-inch display.

If you were one of those people asking about the phablet, this could be Sony's answer.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the successor to the Xperia Z Ultra this year is dubbed as the Sony Xperia Z3X, a phablet that boasts a 6.2-inch display. And it's not just an 'ordinary' screen, but one that packs a QHD or 2K (2560 x 1440) resolution.

Other rumored specs of the device include a Snapdragon 810 chipset from Qualcomm which supports 64-bit applications and programs, a whopping 4GB of RAM, and a curved photo sensor that packs 22.1MP of resolution.

In the report, the device has already been tested in AnTuTu's Benchmark which means these specs are more or less confirmed with the only missing detail the official name of the Sony smartphone.

The tested device runs Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat, but we'd expect the Xperia Z3X to be powered by Android L when it makes its debut, reportedly in the first half of next year.

There are a number of events during that half, including the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, and the Mobile World Congress.
