Aretha Franklin Talks New Album Diva Classics; Respect Singer Says 'This Is No Hype'

Legendary singer Aretha Franklin proves that talent trancends generations. The diva has recently come out with a new album of covers and people have been more than delighted of the offering.

"I haven't felt so up on a CD since 'Jump to It' [was released in 1982] or the first time one of my records was played on the radio," Aretha Franklin said about her new album in an interview with the Associated Press.

"Great Diva Classics", which features the songstress' take on songs popularized by other female singers, is the "Respect" singer's follow-up to her 2011 studio effort "A Woman Falling Out of Love."

The Queen of Soul gushed about the record, which was released on vinyl on Tuesday, saying: "I like all of it. I like the whole CD, from cut to cut to cut. It kind of reminds me of, I said, 'You know, this is kind of similarto Marvin Gaye's What's Going On?' You know the kind of records from cut to cut; I don't care what comes up [but] you like it. You like it! I think it may be that kind of album."

The studio effort reunited Franklin with longtime collaborator Clive Davis, who dreamed up the concept.

Giving a feel of what the album would be like, which will be available for download and on stands on October 21, Franklin sampled her version of Adele's "Rolling In the Deep" on "Late Night with David Letterman" on Monday.

The song was also uploaded on YouTube and has garnered more than 1.4 million views.

Apart from Adele's, Franklin also covered songs by Alicia Keys, Sinead O'Connor and more.

Aretha Franklin's new album, which was produced by Babyface and Andre 3000, affirms the singer's position in the industry. With her longevity in the business and undeniable talent, one can only agree with her statement that "This is no hype."
