Weekend Box Office Predictions: Ben Affleck In David Fincher’s “Gone Girl” To Debut At #1, Horror Film “Annabelle” To Debut At #2, Denzel Washington To Keep “The Equalizer” In Top 3

This weekend at the box office there will be Ben Affleck as an accused murders, a creepy doll wreaking havoc, and Denzel Washington at his most heroic. Box office analysts have made their predictions and so far it seems David Fincher's "Gone Girl" is set to debut at the number one spot, followed by "The Conjuring" spinoff "Annabelle," and finally Denzel Washington in "The Equalizer" will fight off the rest of the past weekends' releases for the number three spot.

"Annabelle" director John Leonetti sat down with Shock Till You Drop to talk about the upcoming horror film: "I really think it's my appreciation for and love of Hitchcock, the master of suspense at least from that time. I think James Wan is our current master," he said. "I kinda pull from both of those guys but I really think I was inspired by Hitchcock in a few different ways."

Although there's little critical consensus about "Annabelle" just yet, Box Office Pro expects "Annabelle" to debut at around $27 million, due to it's connection to the successful release of "The Conjuring" last year, and the fact that horror films in the month of October generally do well.

$27 Million would be a very successful opening but no analyst believes that "Annabelle" will be able to top "Gone Girl" this weekend, as the film already has critical acclaim from its debut at the New York Film Festival, and plenty of people who may be interested in how the film adaptation compares to the New York Times Bestselling book version (both written by Gillian Flynn). The race may be sort of tight though, as David Fincher's "Gone Girl" is expected debut in the number one spot this weekend with $31 million in gross.

The top three films this weekend should be rounded off by another successful weekend for Denzel Washington in "The Equalizer." The film debuted at number one last weekend ahead of Dylan O'brien in "The Maze Runner" and is expected to gross another $18 million by Sunday.

All in all, this weekend will be a good start to the October box office, but if you're not over the age of 17 (all of the films above are rated R), your only choices will be the holdovers from September, "The Boxtrolls" and "The Maze Runner."
