Jeremy Lin News: 'Linsanity' Star Now Leading Second Unit For New-Look Lakers Squad, Should Be Ready To Relieve Nash From Time To Time

Jeremy Lin news: Now that the Lakers have begun their training camp for next season, a lot of Laker fans have been hoping that 26-year-old star Jeremy Lin will take over point guard chores right from the get go.

However, it appears coach Byron Scott will still play future Hall of Famer Steve Nash as the primary floor general for the Lakers.

But it does not diminish the fact that Scott believes in Lin's abiliy to orchestrate an offense, push the ball, and have the eager desire to defend well.

In a report by the LA Times, Scott clearly makes his point regarding the former Harvard standout.

"I like him a lot.  I really do. On defense he really knows where to be. He's gritty, just like I knew he would be."

Throughout his coaching career in the NBA, Scott has been known for his prowess on the defensive scheme of things. And that's exactly the kind of culture he wants to bring into this new Lakers team that has a mix of veterans and younger players.

"He's going to guard you to the best of his ability, and he never gives up on a play. Offensively he runs the team. He gets to the basket. I love the way he pushes the ball in the open floor."

In the report, Lin is expected to come off the bench to relieve Steve Nash and get the second unit for the Los Angeles Lakers going when starters are taking their rest.

However, if Nash's health does not continue to be free from injuries, we'll expect more minutes for Lin. During his tenure with the New York Knicks where the 'Linsanity' craze began, he averaged almost 30 minutes per game. As a result, he averaged more than 20 points and almost 8 assists every night for several consecutive games.

That exposure was not needed in Houston as the Rockets already have their primary ball handler in James Harden.

The Lakers may not be one of the favorites to make it to the Playoffs, but this underdog status may just be what they need to keep their motivation high throughout the season.
