Samsung ATIV SE Review, Specs: Windows Phone 8 Handset Feat. 5-inch 1080P AMOLED Display, 2.3GHz Quad-Core Processor, 2GB RAM

Samsung ATIV SE review, specs: The Windows Phone 8 handset, available from Verizon, Samsung ATIV SE sports a 5-inch 1080P AMOLED display, a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, and 2GB of RAM. The device has an initial allotment of 16GB expandable storage.

Other specs of the unit include a 13MP rear-camera and a 2MP front-facing camera capable of 1080P video recording as well as a 2600mAh battery. According to Phone Arena, the Samsung ATIV SE looks like a capable alternative to the Nokia Lumia Icon, another Verizon Windows Phone-exclusive.

PCMag rates the handset with an “excellent” score, four out of five, noting that it has “Fast performance. Great 1080P display. Thin and light design. Removable battery and expandable storage.”

PCMag writer Eugene Kim notes that “there’s little to distinguish the Ativ SE from the Galaxy S4. It’s imperceptibly taller, thicker, and heavier, but it’s more manageable than the Lumia Icon.”

“Besides the plastic, the phone is quite attractive as it is a bit slimmer than the Lumia Icon and offers up a premium device in a package that is conservative enough that most users will be happy with,” writes Brad Sam of Neowin.

In terms of performance, GSM Arena says that “the Samsung ATIV SE proved to be the performance powerhouse we expected it to be, thanks to its hardware.” The tech site also said that it “is one of the most capable Windows Phone smartphones available” at the time of its released.

Daniel Rubio of WPCentral notes that “the Snapdragon 800 ensures that the ATIV SE is very modern, since that processor kicks the hell out of the Windows Phone OS.” Compared to the Samsung ATIV S Neo, which is available on AT&T, the device has a much better processor, more RAM, larger camera, and greater battery.

Samsung ATIV SE for free on Verizon on a 2-year service agreement and $29.99/month via Verizon Edge. It’s sold for $599 without a contract.
