American Crime Story Season 1 Will Be Subtitled 'The People v. O.J. Simpson' And Will Focus On The Infamous Trial!

TV networks this year have tried and are in the process of trying to spinoff numerous leading series. The How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Dad and Supernatural: Bloodlines were not picked up to series earlier in the year. While ABC is working on a spinoff of Castle, NCIS has launched another spinoff, NCIS: New Orleans and AMC is moving forward on United Walking Dead companion and Better Call Saul.

There is one more spinoff that can be added to the list. Just a day prior to its season four premier, American Horror Story is set to receive an anthological companion series from show's creator Ryan Murphy.

As reported by The Wrap, a 10-episode first season of American Crime Story will be created by Murphy, subtitled, The People v. O.J. Simpson and it will focus on the infamous trial while the following seasons will chronicle other true crime stories.

American Crime Story will be directed and executive produced by Murphy along with Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson (The Hunger Games) along with TV writer, director and producer, Brad Falchuk who is best known for co-creating comedy-drama TV series Glee and horror-drama series American Horror Story and Dante Di Loreto (Glee). The writing team of Larry Karaszewski (Big Eyes) and Scott Alexander will not only executive produce but will also pen the script for the first two hours of the series.

Many of the recent spinoffs have failed to thrill the audiences as they tend to be without significant change or improvement from the original series they were based on. In terms of genre, American Crime Story has taken a step away from American Horror Story.

Each season American Horror Story has centered on various horror themes like a house, an asylum, a witch school, and now a freak show. On the other hand, American Crime Story seems to be a character drama more deeply rooted in the real world.

American Horror Story: Freak Show is scheduled to premiere on October 8th, 10 p.m.  on FX.
