Anne Hathaway Recalls Hypothermia Scare On ‘Interstellar’ Set: ‘I Became Tingly And Couldn’t Feel Anything’

Filming "Interstellar" was not an easy task for actress Anne Hathaway.

The 31-year-old star recently revealed in an interview with The Telegraph that she almost caught hypothermia while shooting a scene in water when her wet suit began to leak. And the moment on the "Interstellar" set sounds more than a little frightening. 

"It was a scene where my character becomes submerged in water and trapped, so I go down in the water expecting it's probably not going to be warm but I will at least be dry," said Hathaway. "But after about 10 seconds the suit is totally full of water. I don't know what's happening or why, but everybody is hurting and cold so I don't say anything about it and wonder, 'How long can this last?' Well, it did last and I became tingly and couldn't feel anything and things were starting to get a bit hazy around the edges. I thought [director Christopher Nolan] is going to be way more annoyed if I die of hypothermia than he is if I speak up about it and maybe delay filming for five minutes."

"So I threw caution to the wind and told him what was going on and he said, 'OK, let's roll right now.' And we were done," added the actress. "I was just really, really, really cold and it's not that Chris sent me off to get warmed up. Wimps don't last long on his set."

While struggling through the scene sounds miserable, at least the "Interstellar" star had the support of her husband Adam Shulman when she wrapped up for the day.

"I'm very fortunate that my husband has a job that allows him to travel and kind of make his own schedule," Hathaway explained. "So he travels with me whenever possible. We have a rule that we aren't apart for more than two weeks."

Anne and Adam got married in 2012 and have been together for six years.  

The Oscar-winning actress told The Telegraph that she didn't expect to love marriage so much.

"When we got married, I thought it was a great party," said Hathaway. "I honestly thought we were doing it more for tradition. I wasn't prepared for the radical shift my heart was going to have."
