Almeng’s Lee Hae Yong Reportedly Saves Elderly Woman From Drunk Assailant

Lee Hae Yong may have risen to popularity for his soulful voice as part of the duo Almeng, but he also gained praise recently for his kind heart after aiding an elderly woman under assault from a drunk man.

According to Soompi, police reports describe Lee Hae Yong as a dashing defender who rushed to help an 81-year-old woman in distress. Lee, who was at a crosswalk near Sillim Station in Seoul, spotted the woman picking up cardboard and other recyclables when a drunk assailant began attacking the woman without provocation. The drunk man kicked the woman and hit her repeatedly, all the while telling her to "shut up" when she was asking him why he was hurting her.

Lee could not let the assault go on any longer so he stopped the drunk assailant and kept him from doing more harm until the authorities could arrive.

"I thought the woman would be seriously hurt so I rushed to help her. Thankfully, the authorities arrived very soon and they were able to detain the assailant," Lee Hae Yong was reported to have said. "Any modest citizen would have done the same thing."

Reports also say that Lee Hae Yong will receive a letter of appreciation and reward money for his random act of kindness. Due to his intervention, the elderly woman did not suffer any major injuries.

This news should bring in new fans for Lee Hae Yong, who along with Choi Rin, formed Almeng and entered the SBS singing search show, K-Pop Star Season 3 where they finished Top 5.

After the show, Almeng then signed on to YNB Entertainment and launched their debut single "Let's Forget" in spring last year. This was followed by their debut album compoSing of Love later in October. Two MVs were released for the upbeat title track "Phone in Love" and catchy follow-up "Half an Hour".
