NBC Universal Vice Chair Celebrates Box Office Win Of 'Furious 7;' Weighs In On Paul Walker's Death

"The Fast & the Furious 7" now holds the distinction as the fastest film to hit the $1 billion mark in the box-office.

A statement from NBC Universal stated, "This is the first time in Universal's 103-year history that we have had a film achieve this level of success in its first run. It will certainly exceed this number as well as have the distinction of being the quickest of any film to reach this milestone in just 17 days."

Ron Meyer, vice chairman of NBCUniversal, said that they have had films with strong box-office showing such as "Jurassic Park," the Jason Bourne series, and the animated film "Despicable Me."

And although the studio are proud of all their successes, what distinguished "Furious 7" at the box-office was that it was an "original live action concept with an entirely diverse cast."

As it is, "Furious 7" is the only franchise that reached over $3.39 billion and counting at the box-office.

Meanwhile, Ron Meyer also weighed in on "Furious 7" actor Paul Walker's tragic death.

He said, "When our friend and colleague Paul Walker tragically passed away in the middle of production, our team, led by Jeff Shell and Donna Langley, and the filmmakers along with the cast and crew did what they do best: They focused on family first; then talked to the fans; then got to work on making a great film that we can all be proud of."

The exec said that "Furious 7" is much about celebrating Paul Walker's death and the role he played in all their lives, as much as it is for the fans.

Paul Walker was filming "Furious 7" when he died in a tragic car accident last year after the Porsche his friend was driving at over 100mph careened off the road and Los Angeles and burst into flames.
