McDreamy Set To Return To 'Grey's Anatomy'? Fans Petition To Bring Character Back After His Death On The Show!

"Grey's Anatomy" fans have created an online petition to bring back Patrick Dempsey's character after he was killed off in the show's latest episode.

Devoted fans of the ABC show "Grey's Anatomy" were shocked at the death of "Mc Dreamy," or Dr. Derek Shepherd. In the last episode of the show, the character had succumbed to the wounds he incurred after a car accident.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, a fan named Courtney Williams started an online petition at the website Change.org to ask the show's producers to bring back their favorite character. So far the petition has close to 17,000 signatures after being started last Friday.

In the write-up accompanying the petition, Williams said that "Grey's Anatomy's" fans "are not sleeping nor eating because of this tragic turn of events."

The fan also addressed the show's creator Shonda Rhimes directly in her plea. "You do not have someone survive a mass murderer, a plane crash, a freaking plane crash, and a crushed hand, as neurosurgeon... just to kill them off on a beautiful day!" said Williams. "Seriously? Seriously Shonda?! Seriously Ms. Rhimes? It's like you've killed the President of Grey's Anatomy! The fans are ready to serve you papers and charge you with the Patriot Act."

For his part, Patrick Dempsey only had gratefulness after his character was killed off. The actor took to Twitter to give a short message for fans who have stuck with the show for the last 11 years. "I want to thank all the fans, what an incredible 11 yrs, I love you all."

On the other hand, Ellen Pompeo, who played the romantic interest of Dr. Derek Shepherd on the show recently opened up about the death of "McDreamy."

"There are so many people out there who have suffered tremendous loss and tragedy," the actress said according to ET Online. "Husbands and wives of soldiers, victims of senseless violence and parents who have lost children."

"People who get up each day and do what feels like is the impossible," Pompeo continued. "So it is for these people and in the spirit of resilience."

"I am honoured and excited to tell the story of how Meredith goes on in the face of what feels like the impossible," she concluded. "I hope you will all join me on her journey."
