Scott Weiland Fired from Stone Temple Pilots 'I Haven't Quit, I Haven't Been Fired'

The lead singer of the rock band Stone Temple Pilots Scott Weiland was fired without explanation from the group.

TMZ reports that the Stone Temple Pilots released an abrupt statement reading; "Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland." There is no further explanation than that.

Weiland has been with the band since they formed in 1986. The band broke up briefly in 2002, rumors of an argument between lead singer Scott Weiland and guitarist Dean De Leo.

Weiland has had public battles with drug addiction in the past; there is no word on whether or not that has anything to do with why the Stone Temple Pilots singer was fired.

Scott Weiland's Twitter is all quiet about the issue, however in an ironic twist of fate Weiland squashed rumors of an STP break up by telling Rolling Stone yesterday, "STP has not broken up. I haven't quit. I haven't been fired."

Fans left comments on the TMZ website like:

"They'll hire him back. STP isn't STP without Scott Weiland," and "Can't replace a single member in that band. Scotts voice is what I hear when I think of STP. Sucks."

Popular Stone Temple Pilots' songs include: Interstate Love Song, Wicked Garden, Vasoline and Plush, which won a Grammy in 1993.

There is no word on who will replace Scott Weiland. The band is still scheduled to go on tour.
