Kathy Bates Will Be More Evil Than She's Ever Been On 'America Horror Story': Oscar Winning Actress Has 'Never Been Someone This Bad' Series Creator Raves

When Oscar Winning actress Kathy Bates joins the cast of "America Horror Story" in the show's third season, she will be playing a worse character than any villain she ever played, according to series creator Ryan Murphy.

"Kathy's never [played] someone this bad," Ryan Murphy told TVLine. "Her [character] is a bad, bad woman! It's five times worse than [her] Misery character, which is why she liked it. When I pitched this to Kathy, her mouth was drop-jawed because what I was pitching actually happened. It's a true event.

The show, which just wrapped its second season, earned 17 Emmys for its first season in 2011.

During the second season, characters in the show played new roles, completely different than what they did in the first season. Both seasons had new beginnings, middles and endings. Bates will join the fray as her villain side comes out to play in a series that is all about horror.

The star won an Academy Award for her villain role as Annie Wilkes in the 1990 thriller, "Misery."

Her Annie Wilkes character was the proclaimed "number one" fan of a famed author. She saved him after the author was in an accident during a blizzard.

He was writing a new story that she was allowed to read and didn't like it because of too much cursing. Then she read one of his recent books, only to find out the character Misery was killed off. This was part of her psychotic obsession with the author.

The Oscar catapulted her career to numerous awards and numerous roles for the next two decades and more. She played roles in comedies, more thrillers and television appearances.  Now she joins a cast where she will portray the best friend of a character played by Jessica Lange, only to eventually turn on her.

In 2003, Bates successfully battled ovarian cancer. Last September, she announced she had breast cancer, which forced her to undergo a double mastectomy.

Fortunately the cancer isn't stopping Bates from stopping viewers' hearts with terror.

And what will the actress's "American Horror Story" storyline consist of? Murphy told fans they'll just have to wait.

"You'll see," he said. "It's some good stuff."
