Five Crashes in 12 Hours Outside Somerset House on British Road, ‘No Defects or Unusual Road Conditions Were Found’

Five crashes in 12 hours on Sunday night into Monday morning this week. It's no wonder the winding road is called the most dangerous in all of Britain.

The same spot where the accident occurs is in Somerset, about three hour drive west of London.

The slew of car crashes began Sunday evening, February 24 as first accident began when a woman lost control of her car, swerved off the road crashed into a garden, in just a few minutes later another driver slammed into a parked car in the same yard.

As if those crashes are not enough, incredibly the next morning there were three more crashes with no causalities.

The local parish council heard numbers of complaints from residents over the dangerous road, at a meeting last year. The council said it is considering altering the road for the safety of their town.

"It was pretty scary to see five crashes outside the house in the space of 12 hours," said Steve Cobbin, who witnessed many accidents in the same spot over the past 15 years."

He continued sharing, "Over the last few years we've had four cars in our garden and a minibus on the wall following accidents. Once a lorry dropped its entire load of beer into our garden. We laugh about it now but my daughter who is 12, is very scared by it and we don't go in the garden any more. My wife has emailed our MP David Heath about this issue and been onto the county highways agency to do something about this problem."

The residents in the area are unsure of what caused the five crashes in 12 hours but speculate that new road surface was to blame. However local officials don't believe that is the case.

A spokesman of the county council stated, "The road was resurfaced about three years ago and, on inspection today, no defects or unusual road conditions were found."
