'Fresh Prince' Lockdown: Theme Song Lead To High School Lockdown & Panic in Pennsylvania County, 'Afraid & Embarrassed'

The "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" theme song that was used for a high school student's voicemail caused a lockdown after it was misheard as a shooting threat in Pennsylvania yesterday.

The incident occurred when a receptionist at a Sewickley eye doctor's office called Travis Clawson, 19-year-old to confirm an appointment and the call went to voicemail, on which Clawson's sings Will Smith's "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" theme song.

The receptionist heard "shooting people outside of the school," instead of the original lyric of "shooting some b-ball," a reference to basketball.

All schools in the county were advised to lock down for about 20 minutes while police searched for the Ambridge Area High School student after the alleged threat was reported to the police.

The receptionist called 911, Sewickley police, who then contacted Ambridge school officials. As no one knew where Clawson was and the 911 response system is designed to notify all schools of a situation.

Clawson was eventually found at Ambridge High and detained for three hours before police released him after he explained the message.

"He was afraid and embarrassed," Ambridge police officer Mike Natale told WPXI. "Obviously staff at the doctor's office was embarrassed about the whole thing too."

Ambridge Area School District Superintendent Erv Weischedel sent a letter home to parents stating the "false alarm" is a positive sign.

"As always, the safety of our students and staff are at the forefront of our concern," he wrote. "While this situation can be considered to be a false alarm, it was an excellent opportunity to test our emergency procedures. The procedures in place were efficient and quickly implemented and proved to be successful."

The incident in a glance may seem funny however it sheds a light into our current culture than it does about the receptionist. She did the right thing, but it's sad that she felt she had to.
