Dog Saves Girl: Missing 3-Year-Old In Poland Saved By Pet Dog, Survived Freezing Cold Overnight Before Rescue

A dog saves the life of a three-year-old girl in the touching story of a missing child rescue that occurred in Poland on Saturday, March 2.

A small dog saved the life of a little girl who went missing in Poland, and survived after spending the night outdoors in freezing temperatures.

The dog saved the girl after Julia disappeared with her pet from Pierzwin village in Lubusz province in Poland on Friday, March 1, 2013, according to Vesti FM radio.

After the girl's disappearance, 250 firefighters, police officers, rescue workers and residents of the town searched for her throughout the night.

A police helicopter was also commissioned and supplied with infrared cameras to search for the girl.

Julia was found on Saturday in a nearby marsh with the dog next to her.

Rescuers claimed that the dog slept next to the girl to keep her warm, and that the dog barked when rescuers approached.

Firefighters said that the dog kept the girl warm throughout the night, as temperatures dropped to 23 degrees Fahrenheit.

Firefighter Grzegorz Szymanski said the dog saved the child's life by keeping her warm.

He commented, "For the whole night the animal was with the girl, it never left her. Remember, it was 5 degrees below zero and the child was wet." He added that the animal was the most important factor in the girl's survival.

Julia was taken to a hospital where she is recovering from some frostbite.

The hospital stated that her health condition isn't life threatening, and she will make a full recovery.
