Winter Storm Midwest Warning in Minneapolis, Chicago, other Cities

Late season snowstorm is blanketed parts across the upper Midwest Monday and Tuesday, it will continue into the Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic by Wednesday and Thursday.

The National Weather Service issued winter storm warnings part of Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia.

This is the third storm to strike the Great Pains and Midwest in three weeks. Heaviest snow is expected Monday night into Tuesday morning, with up to an inch per hour.

"It will start overnight tonight and mostly affect both rush hours, morning and evening," said Amy Seeley, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Romeoville, Illinois. "A lot of the city could see 8 to 10 inches."

More than 270 flights were canceled Monday at airports where the storm's first effects of the storms are expected to begin. More than 103 flights were canceled at Minneapolis/St. Paul as of 3.25 p.m. ET Monday.

Conditions are expected to worsen Tuesday, as strong winds and at least a half of now are forecast for Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports.

Montana and North Dakota are in effect of blizzard warnings Monday. There was 11 inches of snow mid-morning Monday at the northeast part of North Dakota, Devils Lake.

The storm is expected to head east Wednesday where the higher elevations of eastern West Virginia into western part of Virginia is likely to receive a foot or more of snow, says AccuWeather meteorologist Alex Sosnowski. There might be power outages in portions of North Carolina, West Virginia, the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.

Significant snow fall is expected to Washington D.C. and Baltimore metro areas and coastal flooding along the East Coast later Wednesday into Thursday.
