Stolen Yacht Washes Ashore in Pacifica on TV, Three Suspects Arrested [VIDEO]

A stolen yacht washes ashore in Pacifica, California Monday after the owner calls the authorities after seeing it on a television newscast.

Police arrested three suspects, two males and one female of stealing yacht who were initially thought were in need of a rescue as the news of the grounding aired, the owner reported to authorities the 82-foot yacht that he was seeing on TV was his.

The suspected thieves took the yacht from Sausalito before dawn and sailed it down to seaside town of Pacifica when it became trapped in shallow water at a low tide and unable to get back out to sea.

Pacifica police received a report at 5:14 a.m. on Monday that a yacht had run aground just off the Linda Mar State Beach and a rescue operation ensued.

Authorities contacted the individuals on board however became suspicious as the three repeatedly declined their rescue efforts.

Ultimately after a brief standoff the authorities coaxed the suspects to surrender to be escorted ashore and were immediately taken into police custody on suspicion of grand theft and conspiracy.

"He was seeing the news media coverage of a vessel that had run aground," Sausalito police Sergeant Bill Fraass said. "The individuals did not want assistance from the Coast Guard but were stuck on a vessel that could go nowhere."

Pacifica Police Captain Joe Spanheimer confirmed the identities of the suspects as 63-year-old Leslie Gardner, 56-year-old Lisa Modawell and 54-year-old Dario Mira.

"We do have thefts of vessels throughout the area, but the theft of a vessel of this size is uncommon," Fraass said.
