Obama Pokes Fun At Bob Woodward

At the Gridiron Club and Foundation dinner President Obama was poking fun at himself and legendary journalist Bob Woodward as well as other members of the Washington media.

The jokes about Woodward came after an email between Woodward and the White House economic advisor Gene Sperling was leaked. In the email Sperling threatened Woodward telling him he would "regret" his position on one of the Obama administration's policies.

Woodward said it was an example of White House intimidation. At the Gridiron Club dinner Obama made a joke about the situation with Woodward saying,

"Can anybody tell me when an administration has ever regretted picking a fight with Bob Woodward? What's the worst that could happen?"

Obama even made fun of his own administration member Gene Sperling, "Who knew Gene could be so intimidating, or let me phrase it differently: who knew anybody named Gene could be so intimidating?"

Bob Woodward is one of the journalists who broke the Watergate scandal. In 1972 Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein were assigned to report on the burglary of the Democratic National Committee in Washington D.C's Watergate building.

What Woodward and Bernstein discovered was a series of illegal activities conducted by the committee to get Richard Nixon reelected as President of the United States.

When the Watergate Scandal broke Nixon resigned the Presidency.

President Obama was attending the Gridiron Club and Foundation's annual dinner when he was poking fun at the media. The Gridiron Club was founded in 1885 and is the country's oldest club for professional journalists.
