Kentucky House Fire Kills 5 Children, 2 Adults

In the rural area of Knox County, Kentucky a house fire killed 5 children and 2 adults Saturday morning.

The fire raged from before the first 911 call at 9:57 am until 1pm when firefighters finally put the fire out. The names of the seven victims are not being released as of yet, in order for authorities to notify family members.

Witnesses say they saw flames shooting from the windows of the house. The authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire but do not suspect it was arson.

The two adult victims were a mother of 3 of the children and her boyfriend. The other 2 children were from another family. Presumably the children were having a sleep over with friends the night before the fire started.

There can be several causes of a house fire. A faulty furnace that is not subject to regular inspection is a fire hazard. Leaving the kitchen while cooking with grease at high temperatures can also result in a fire.

An unattended cigarette or scented candle left near books or papers can quickly catch fire. So can faulty electrical equipment and wiring in your house.

The 5 dead children and the 2 adults will be autopsied Tuesday.
