Swarm of Bees Attack School Children In South Africa

The children and their teacher were waiting to get on a bus and go back to school after taking a trip to see some bunnies at the local bunny park near Johannesburg, when they were attacked by a swarm of bees.

Nobody saw where the angry swarm came from. The children began to scream and run in a panic. The children were aged between two and six.

Chris Botha an ambulance medic on the scene told Global Grind, "A swarm of bees came out of nowhere and attacked the children."

There were 80 children on the trip. 40 of the children were seriously injured and needed to be taken to the hospital.

Botha also said, "four of them were in a critical condition when the paramedics arrived on scene. One of the critically injured children was airlifted with the Netcare medical helicopter to the Charlotte Maxeke hospital."

Investigators are not sure why the swarm of bees attacked the children but they are looking into it. ABC reports that the children were not attacked by the infamous and aggressive Africanized killer bee.

Columbia.edu says that the Africanized Killer bee has caused the death of over 1,000 humans. Their victims will receive ten times as many stings from the Africanized killer bee than they would from a European Honey Bee.

The Killer Bee is also more aggressive than the European Honey Bee and will often attack a something without provocation.
