Drone Attacks Report of Two 'Militants' Killed in Pakistan

An American drone strike in Pakistan's North Waziristan region killed at least two suspected Islamist militants Sunday morning.

The drone was reported to have fired two missiles at a house in Muhammad Khel village of Tehsil Boya area along the border with Afghanistan.

Such drone attacks are frequent in Pakistan as two prior attacks on February 6 and 8, however the U.S. and Pakistani officials are disputing whether the two attacks were drone strikes or something else.

"We don't know the identity of those killed, and our local contacts say the bodies were unrecognizable and beyond recognition. We don't know if they were locals or foreign militants," a source in Peshawar told The New York Times, while adding that "details are sketchy."

Official reported that two were riding on a motorcycle at the time of drone attack. However other official and reports claimed the militants were on horseback.

A Taliban spokesman told the Times: "I cannot confirm their nationality and group affiliation at the moment."

The London-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism said in a report in February that between 2004 and 2013 there had been 364 CIA drone strikes. While under the Obama administration it's been 312. It estimates the death of civilians to be between 411 and 884 and of that, between 168 and 197 were children.

In the past few months there have been demonstrations across Pakistan to condemn the U.S. for violating its sovereignty.

Recently on February 13, hundreds of Pakistani gathered in Islamabad, for an anti-US demonstration protesting against the killing of innocent civilians by the U.S. drone strikes.
