Louis XVI Blood To Be Sold At Auction In Paris: Will Cloth With Famous King's Blood Bring Home Big Bucks On The Auction Block?

Louis XVI blood will be sold in Paris, France on April 3 by British auction house Paul Fraser Collectibles.

The Louis XVI blood, reportedly from when the 18th century king was beheaded, is on a piece of cloth that is roughly the size of an index card.

According to The Local, the cloth comes in a small coffin with a handwritten piece of paper that says: "The precious blood of Louis XVI, 21 January 1793."

That was the day of Louis XVI's beheading.

Yet forensics expert Cyrille Boulay told AFP that DNA testing was the only way to tell if the cloth really contains Louis XVI's blood.

According to French legend, a mob of Parisians attempted to take souvenirs of Louis XVI's beheading including strands of hair, and, yes, the king's blood on a cloth, making it not unrealistic that it is actiually his blood.

Paul Fraser Collectibles, based in Bristol, England, specializes in odd collectibles from famous and historically significant figures.

In addition to the Louis XVI blood, recent auction offerings include strands of Napoleon Bonaparte's hair and Pope Benedict XVI's former 1999 Volkswagen Golf.

Paul Fraser's Daniel Wade explained to ABC why people invest in such odd items.

"The most personal items are going to have a decent chance of appreciation in the future," Wade said.
