Jet Goes Off Tarmac: Delta Air Lines Plane Veers Off Runway With 70 Passengers On Board

A Delta plane set to take off from Houston to Atlanta Monday, got stuck in a grassy area off the tarmac.

Airport spokeswoman Darian Ward told the Associated Press that nobody was hurt in the incident involving the Delta Air Lines jet that Ward said carried about 70 passengers and somehow veered off the runway.

Ward didn't immediately provide the plane's flight number, which the AP reported that the plan was set to take off from the tarmac at the William P. Hobby Airport. She says the incident didn't affect other arriving or departing flights.

The AP reported that shuttle buses were dispatched to transport the passengers back to the terminal for rebooking.

The Hindustan Times reported that about 140 passengers on board a Mumbai-bound Indigo Airlines flight experienced a major scare Saturday when the aircraft veered to the left of the runway at after touchdown and broke at least five lights on the edge of the airstrip.

In that case, the pilot did not report what happened, the HT reported. It wasn't until an inspection of the area spotted the problem five minutes after the plan already landed.

The DGCA's preliminary probe found that an aircraft maintenance engineer with the airline had sheepishly changed the tires of the plane without informing airport authorities, the HT reported.

Nobody was reported as injured from the scare.
