Chipper Jones Coming Out Of Retirement To Be A Yankee, Says “I’m Flattered” By Cashman's Offer; Yanks Also Pursue Retired Derrek Lee

With Alex Rodriguez out until the All-Star break due to hip surgery, the New York Yankees are looking to pick up retired Atlanta Brave Chipper Jones.

New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman told reporters to "get out there" and get Chipper Jones to come out of retirement.

"He can play third base, first base, DH, he would be perfect," Cashman added.

Chipper Jones spent 19 seasons with the Atlanta Braves and has 468 career homeruns.

Jones went on Twitter to address the rumors claiming he will be wearing pinstripes this season,

"Enough with the rumors! While I'm flattered about the speculation of being enticed out of retirement, I'm happy with life as a bad golfer."

Atlanta Brave fans replied to the tweet saying, "Good to hear, a Brave [for] life."

Other tweets said, "You have chosen well grasshopper," and "Nice, that a boy stick to your guns."

So far the New York Yankees are out two key assets to their team and the season has not even started yet. Alex Rodriguez hurt his hip last season, missing play offs and is recovering from surgery.

Mark Teixeira, the Yankees first baseman injured his wrist and forearm during spring training. He is expected to be out for 2 months. To replace him, the Yankees are seeking another retired player, Derrek Lee.

Cashman said Lee "would be an excellent fit, he's a Yankee type of player."

Derrek Lee last played in 2011 with the Baltimore Orioles. While it is official that the Yankees are pursuing Lee, there is no official word that he will come out of retirement.

However, Lee's Twitter is full of posts like, "Getting closer to game shape everyday. Physically ready, mentally hungry," he also tweets "should have an announcement soon!"
