Ohio High School Rape Trial Scheduled To Begin Wednesday: Steubenville Quarterback And Wide Receiver Allegedly Raped 16-Year-Old Girl [PHOTO]

A rape case in Ohio involving two Steubenville High School football players begins Wednesday.

Prsecutors allege that the Steubenville High School football team's quarterback and wide receiver raped a16-year-old girl when she was drunk at a party in August, according to the Associated Press.

Steubenville quarterback Trent Mays and wide receiver Ma'Lik Richmond will stand trial in Jefferson County juvenile court. The pair have denied charges that they raped the teenage girl in a car and in a basement while she was in a dazed state and couldn't consent.

The story became national news after graphic cell phone photos (like the one above from Instagram) and videos spread across social media.

The victim herself will reportedly take the stand in the case, one of dozens of reported witnesses. The 16-year-old girl allegedly told police that she doesn't remember the incident.

The prosecution's evidence includes the Instagram photograph which shows Mays, 17, and Richmond, 16, carrying the alleged victim out of house party by her arms and legs.

If convicted, Mays and Richmond could reportedly be held in a juvenile detention center until they are 21.

Steubenville is known as a football town. The original judge and local prosecutor had to recuse themselves from the trial because of their ties to the football program.

The defendants have been on house arrest since being accused in the sexual assault case. They have been attending school at the Justice Center's School for Detained Juveniles.
