Demi Lovato Defends 'Cosmopolitan' Magazine Photoshoot; Says Cover 'Empowered' Her!

Demi Lovato has taken a stand for her "Cosmopolitan" magazine photoshoot amidst rumors that some stores plan to take the magazine out of their shelves.

According to E! News, the "Cool for the Summer" singer took to Instagram to voice her opinions, even telling her critics that she doesn't care what they say since she has never been happier with the way she looked.

Lovato's Instagram rant was lengthy, but she apparently clearly told her haters that her newfound confidence and self-love, which "took soul searching and a bit of time," helped her embrace her body and sexuality.

"I am confident in my own skin and A PROUD @COSMOPOLITAN COVER GIRL!" she ended her stirring message. She even used the hashtag "#unwrapmycosmo" for the post. Fans were wondering why Demi Lovato suddenly defended her "Cosmopolitan" magazine photoshoot.

The "Skyscraper" singer's rant purportedly had a lot to do with the campaign recently launched by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation. The campaign called "Cosmo Harms Minors" seeks to have supermarkets place a protective overlay on the women's magazine displayed on their shelves to hide the risqué covers.

The New York Post has reported that Victoria Hearst, multimillionaire heiress to the family fortune said "Cosmopolitan" is pushing "pornography" and is earnestly helping National Center on Sexual Exploitation with its campaign.

"Cosmopolitan magazine glamorizes things like public, anal, group, or violent sex in nearly all of their issues," said the organization's website. "We are asking that Cosmo be sold to adults only and have the cover wrapped like all other porn magazines in retail shops."

So far, Rite Aid and Food Lion have acquiesced to the request.

Lovato has kept her life an open book despite her struggles with substance abuse, body image and self esteem. She credits her change to long-time boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Whatever happens with the campaign, it seems Demi Lovato's defense of her "Cosmopolitan" magazine photoshoot would only serve to get people talking about her new album.
