'Alien 5' Yields To 'Prometheus 2?' Neill Blomkamp's Film's Release Date Pushed Back

"Alien 5" won't happen until 2018 at the earliest as director Neill Blomkamp will reportedly wait for Ridley Scott to release "Prometheus 2" first.

According to the report from Bloody Disgusting website, the reason why there's not much press on "Alien 5" since the confirmation about Sigourney Weaver signing on to reprise he role as Ripley was because of this development.

The website alleged, "While Twentieth Century Fox is still hot on the project, our sources tell us that they're being forced to hold off until after Ridley Scott gets into production on his long-gestured Prometheus sequel. This means a lengthy development process for Blomkamp's Alien, and a potential release in 2018."

The source went on to add that Neill Blomkamp will take the extended time of the release date to further fine-tune the script for "Alien 5." It will also give chance to Sigourney Weaver to clear her schedule when James Cameron's "Avatar 2" starts filming.

"Ridley Scott is still producing, but has insisted on Prometheus 2 being made first," the source added.

And there's a good chance that with "Prometheus 2" having an earlier release date, Niell Blomkamp won't step on any toes in terms of the Aliens canon.

In an interview with Empire magazine last March, the director said, "I changed the one thing [Scott] felt was bumping Prometheus a little bit. One thing that makes me feel good about it is that Ridley is producing it. He likes the idea of what I want to make."

Of course, "Aliens 5" is just the working title and there's a good chance that it will change before the movie is released.

Niell Blomkamp added, "I sent the title I wanted to Ridley. It's kinda quite bold, but it gives away too much if I say the title. But in the event that it doesn't work, I'm dead in the water."
