Theo James, Shailene Woodley Feel More Than Friends? 'Divergent: Allegiant' Stars' Body Language Revealed

Theo James and Shailene Woodley have both denied something going on between them yet the rumors persists that their on-screen chemistry suggests more than friends.

But the onscreen chemistry between the English actor and the American actress can be explained from the friendship that they developed while filming "Divergent" and its sequel, "Insurgent."

Talking to Entertainment Wise, Ruth Kearney's boyfriend said that they suffered through the usual awkwardness when they started the movie.

"There's a bit of excitement, nervousness-who are these people? Are they going to piss me off? Or am I going to think they're awesome? Or whatever," he said. "And then as you get to know each other, more true feelings of friendship and caring come in. And that's the same with Tris and Four."

It also helped that Theo James and Shailene Woodley are committed to their characters which translates onto the screen, to the extent that fans really believe that they are dating.

On kissing Shailene Woodley in "Insurgent," Theo James said, "I just went at it hard, to be honest, because I thought that's how she wanted it. I thought to assuage any awkwardness I would just go for it. She was kind of batting away my hands."

He went on to add, "The kissing scene with Shai and I, we wanted that to be as good as possible. Because it's the only scene where [Four and Tris] get together, and we wanted it to be real and not just be lots of cheese."

"So, we shot that a second time because the first time it didn't feel right, and we wanted to honor it in the way that it earned."

Theo James quipped, "I just wanted to practice the kissing scene with Shai as much as possible. I'd say 'Listen, after dinner we could just go over that scene again.'"

However, despite their onscreen chemistry, there's nothing to suggest that Theo James and Shailene Woodley are more than friends, as the English actor is very much with Ruth Kearney while the actress is rumored to be dating Hawaiian musician Nahko Bear.
