Megan Fox Takes Zooey Deschanel's Place In 'New Girl' Season 5

Is Megan Fox replacing Zooey Deschanel in "New Girl" season 5?

According to Deadline, the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" actress will play a recurring role in "New Girl" season 5 as Zooey Deschanel takes a bit of a break after giving birth.

"Fox will play Reagan, a gorgeous, straight-shooting pharmaceutical sales rep who comes to town on business and shakes things up in the loft when she rents out Jess' (Zooey Deschanel) room while she is sequestered on jury duty," it said.

Megan Fox's "New Girl" debut, in place of Zooey Deschanel, will be on the sixth episode of season 5.

Deadline said that this is not Megan Fox's first foray into television. In fact, she started her career in the boob tube with the ABC sitcom, "Hope & Faith," before blowing everybody's minds with her film debut, "Transformers."

Showrunner Liz Meriwether released a statement confirming Megan Fox's stint in "New Girl."

"It's insane to me that such a gorgeous person can be so funny, but I guess we just all have to accept it," she said. "I've been a fan of her comedic skills since This is 40, and I'm so excited to have her on the show. We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part - she's the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up."

Meriweather earlier told The Hollywood Reporter how they manage to write a storyline around Zooey Deschanel's maternity break.

"Jess gets sequestered on a jury," she said. The idea behind it was to be able to do those pastel courtroom sketches, so you could still see her in the jury. It's a little weird, but we're having fun with it."

"It's a way to have all of the guys check in with her. They watch the news reports on the trial. And they show being set in L.A., this is a city where celebrities get into trouble and juries really do get sequestered."

"New Girl" season 5, with Megan Fox replacing Zooey Deschanel for the meantime, is set to return this January.
