Terry Francona Gets Lost On His Way To Opening Day In Cleveland Only Two Blocks Away From Where The Indians Play Ball

It was the home-opener for the Cleveland Indians Monday and they almost did it without their new manager because Terry Francona was lost on his way to the ballpark.

Francona lives two blocks away from Progressive Field, but it might have been two blocks too many. He told ESPN that he got turned around three times trying to find his destination. Nobody wants to be late on their first day.

"Even when I got to the garage [at the stadium] two people who work here said, 'Hey, do you know where you're going?' I was like, 'Nope,'" Francona told ESPN.

He said even the employees were asking him if he knew where he was going and he simply replied, "nope." He had to be driven on a golf kart to get to his office inside his new job.

Francona spent last season as an analyst for ESPN after eight years with the Boston Red Sox, where he won two World Series trophies.

In 1988, Francona played one season for the Indians. It wasn't the same stadium then but it's still a stadium, which isn't exactly the easiest building to miss when you're nearby.

His father, John, was able to find the stadium as he threw out the ceremonial first pitch because he played five seasons in Cleveland.

Francona noted that the people in Celveland were quite friendly as he attempted to arrive to his new job.

He said people in Cleveland are quite friendly. Everyone greeted him as he passed-"That was a little different than I'm used to," Francona said.
