‘Batman: Arkham Origins’, Prequel To Hit Games ‘Arkham City’ And ‘Arkham Asylum,’ Set For Release In October By New Dev Studio

A new Batman Arkham City game is being released, titled Batman: Arkham Origins, on October 25, 2013.

Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment just announced the coming release of two new Arkham games: Batman: Arkham Origins, a prequel to Asylum and City for current-generation consoles and PC, and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate for 3DS and Vita.

Rocksteady won't be handling the games or their release. Instead, WB Games Montreal has taken over. WB Games Montreal is a relatively young WB subset formed in 2010, and it doesn't have a track record, according to Time.

According to WB, "Batman: Arkham Origins features an expanded Gotham City and introduces an original prequel storyline set several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, the first two critically acclaimed games of the franchise.

"Taking place before the rise of Gotham City's most dangerous criminals, the game showcases a young and unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. As the story unfolds, players will meet many important characters for the first time and forge key relationships," the press release stated.

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate is a 2.5-D game that WB says works as a "companion game to Batman: Arkham Origins" in which players can continue the storyline of the console version.

Game Informer pointed out in a cover release from the Origins game that the assassin 'Deathstroke' will feature in the game, the first appearance for the character in a core Arkham game.

Batman: Arkham Origins is scheduled to release on October 25, 2013 on Wii U, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate will be released on the same day for 3DS and Vita.
