Tyra Banks' 'America's Next Top Model' Ends After Cycle 22; Supermodel Says 'It's Time'

"America's Top Model" is finally ending its run after 12 years. Tyra Banks, former supermodel and the creator of the show, tweeted on Oct. 16, "TYRA MAIL! Thinking #ANTM22 should be our last cycle. I truly believe it's time. May your pics be forever fierce. Keep on Smizing!"

Fans were quick to react by the surprising news about "America's Top Model" ending.

One wrote, "You gotta end on season 25! 22 is not an iconic number, this isn't an Adele album title."

Another commented, "#ANTM22 can be the last cycle all you want, as long as you let @NyleDiMarco win it! That's my request. #EndOfAnEra."

"You at least have to make it to 25!" another fan wrote. "You never had a model in a wheelchair or with a prosthesis! Cmon now!"

The final air date for " America's Top Model" will be on Dec. 4, E! News reported. But even after it ends, the network might still show a restrospective special set for 2016.

On her Instagram, Tyra Banks further explained why "America's Top Model" will end after cycle 22.

"We were the first reality show based in the fashion world. I never thought my little idea would have people everywhere thinking differently about how they take photos. And I never thought we'd do 22 cycles," she wrote.

"I truly believe it's time," Tyra banks explained. "Our diehard fans know we've expanded the definition of beauty, presented what Flawsome is, tooched and booched and boom boom boomed, shown the world how to show their neck, rocked couture/catalogue/commercial poses, have found our (and your) light, strutted countless runways, gone on tons of go-sees, added guys to the girls mix, and have traveled around the globe and back again. Yeah, it's time. It really is."

The former Sports Illustrated bikini model continued, "I set out to create a show where Perfect is Boring. So I hope you continue to love your freckles, your moles, your big forehead, your big eyes, your small eyes, your pointy chin, your tiny boobs, your full chest, your ivory or ebony skin (or every color in between) - the stuff about you that makes you well...you."
