`Dumb and Dumber 2’ Back On: Haven’t They Learned Anything?

“Dumb and Dumber 2” is back on again. Seventeen years after the original, and in spite of a sequel they’d all like to forget, the Farrelly Brothers have started pre-production on a proper sequel.

“Dumb and Dumber 2”will be the next movie Bobby and Peter Farrelly will direct. The Farrelly Brothers didn’t direct “Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd,” the sequel/prequel made in 2003, which everyone hated. The brothers wanted to make the sequel earlier, but The Three Stooges got in the way.

According to published reports “Dumb and Dumber 2” is now moving forward in production. The Farrelly brothers hired Sean Anders and John Morris, who wrote “She’s Out of My League,” “Hot Tub Time Machine” and “Mr. Popper’s Penguin,” to write the screenplay.

There is no word on whether or not Jim Carrey or Jeff Daniels will reprise their roles as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, but the Farrelly brothers figure they were stupid enough to do it the first time. And then there’s the “Mr. Popper’s Penguin” connection and they figure, how much could they have learned.

A few weeks ago Warner Brothers passed on making the sequel, but said they won’t stop it from getting made, they just don’t want to make it.

“Dumb and Dumber” was a huge hit in 1994. The prequel, “Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd,” was not so much a hit as it was a knock off.

“Dumb and Dumber” earned $250 million worldwide, “Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd” took in $40 million. If the math keeps up this way “Dumb and Dumber To,” which is the proposed title of the new movie, would make about ten bucks.
