Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have reportedly named their newborn baby North West, with the nickname Nori. Is she the first girl to be named North in the U.S. in 2012 and 2013?

13 boys in 2012 were named North, according to official U.S. records, The Huffington Post reports. However, the name doesn't appear at all on the records for girls. The Social Security Administration only lists names given to five or more babies - so there may be four baby girls recently named North, or North West may be the only girl in the U.S. to have that name.

Nori, the word for seaweed in Japanese, may have a truly unique name.

Early rumors after the baby's June 15 birth said the name definitely began with a K. Many reported that Kimye had named their daughter Kaidence Donda, but this was later found false.

E! News reports that Kim gave some clues about her baby's gender and name before she gave birth. In an interview, E! News brought up rumors that Kim might name her baby North.

"I don't know where that came from," Kim said.

"It's cute! I actually think it's cute," Kim replied, before quickly saying, "I think our name will definitely probably be unique, but we really haven't picked a name yet."

According to The Huffington Post, it is possible that the couple choice of the name North could influence the popularity of the name. When Kim's sister Kourtney named her son Mason, the name shot up to Number 2 on the boys' chart that year.

On the other hand, the name may be reserved for celebrity baby status. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' daughter Suri and Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin's daughter Apple have names that did not become popular in the U.S.

Kim and Kanye have not confirmed the name North, and the family has remained uncharacteristically quiet about the little girl. The family has only tweeted about the appearance of the child and not much else.

USA Today reports that Kimye left the hospital "overnight Thursday" and headed to "an undisclosed L.A. home."
